Bica, Videanu, Alin and Dorin Cocos, under preventive arrest for 30 days
Former Directorate for the Investigation of Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) Director Alina Bica, former Economy Minister Adriean Videanu, businessman Dorin Cocos and his son, Alin Cocos, as well as Ionut Mihailescu, former adviser to Alina Bica, were placed under preventive arrest for 30 days, as decided by the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ).
Lozan Panov Elected as Bulgaria's Top Judge
Bulgaria's Supreme Judicial Council on Thursday elected Lozan Panov as chairman of the Supreme Court of Cassation.
Panov was elected in a 17-6 vote with no abstentions in the Supreme Judicial Council known by its Bulgarian acronym VSS.
The justice system needs a comprehensive reform, Panov said after being elected for a seven-year term.

CoE: Serbia's Lubarda elected as ECtHR judge
STRASBOURG - Branko Lubarda, a professor of the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade, has been elected a judge of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) by a decision of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (CoE).
Lubarda teaches labour, international and social law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade.

Bulgaria's Judicial Council to Seek Election Court of Cassation Chair Thursday
The Supreme Judicial Council (VSS) is to make another attempt at electing a Chair of the Supreme Court of Cassation (VKS) on Thursday.
Romania High Court Clears President Iohannis
Romania's high court of cassation and justice on Wednesday acquitted President Klaus Iohhanis of any charges of possible conflict of interests.
At issue was Iohannis's actions as mayor of the Transylvanian town of Sibiu from 2000 to 2014, when he represented the city administration at a shareholders' meetings of two firms of which the city itself is a co-owner.

High Court: Klaus Iohannis was not in situation of incompatibility
The High Court of Cassation and Justice on Wednesday dismissed an appeal lodged by the National Agency for Integrity and ruled that President of Romania Klaus Iohannis was not in a situation of incompatibility while serving as mayor of Sibiu.AGERPRES

High Court of Cassation and Justice, in deliberation regarding case between ANI and Klaus Iohannis
The High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ) has paused for deliberation on Wednesday in the case of the appeal filed by the National Agency for Integrity (ANI) against the decision in favor of Klaus Iohannis in the incompatibility case brought by the Agency.

Iohannis: Prosecutor-General should be amongst CSAT members
President Klaus Iohannis stated that he believes that the Prosecutor-General should be amongst the members of the Supreme Council for National Defence (CSAT), given the perspective of modernizing the institutional infrastructure of the national security laws and of the CSAT law.

CSM to elect new leadership on Tuesday
The Supreme Council of Magistrates (CSM) on Tuesday will convene in a plenary sitting to elect its new leadership, the two candidates for the President position being judges Alexandru Serban and Marius Tudose, while prosecutor Bogdan Gabor runs for Vice President.
