Hospitals seeing patients with more severe virus cases due to variants, says expert

Patients with more severe cases are being admitted to hospitals' intensive care units (ICU) due to COVID-19 variants, an expert has said.

Health Minister Fahrettin Koca recently said the U.K. strain of the coronavirus, which had been detected in 81 provinces, accounted for 75 percent of all cases in the country.

Coronavirus/GCS: 1,456 patients in ICU; hospitalized - 13,714

Bucharest, April 4 /Agerpres/ - A number of 13,714 people with COVID-19 are hospitalized in the specialized health units, out of whom 1,456 in intensive care, announced the Strategic Communication Group (GCS). In total, 66,589 people confirmed with SARS-CoV-2 infection are in isolation at home and 16,255 are in institutionalized isolation in Romania, GCS informs.

GCS: 97 people infected with SARS-CoV-2 die in last 24 hours; 24,070 deaths since start of pandemic

Bucharest, April 4 /Agerpres/ - A number of 97 people infected with SARS-CoV-2 have died in the last 24 hours, according to data transmitted on Sunday by the Strategic Communication Group (GCS). According to GCS, it is about 44 men and 53 women.

GCS: 4,151 new SARS-CoV-2 cases; over 21,600 test in past 24 hours

These are cases that have not previously had a positive test, the quoted source states.

Over 16 mln COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in Turkey

Turkey has so far administered more than 16.6 million coronavirus vaccine jabs across the country, the nation's health minister announced on April 3.

"Among the countries which have yet to produce their own vaccine, Turkey stands as one of the states that conducts the most jabs," Fahrettin Koca said on Twitter.

They are being added to England's "red list" amid concerns about the spread of new Covid-19 variants.

From 04:00 on 9 April, international visitors who have travelled from or through those countries in the previous 10 days will be refused entry.

First doses of Pfizer-BioNTech jab administered in Turkey

The first doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine were administered in Turkey's capital Ankara on April 2. 

Turkey has so far received 2.8 million doses of the vaccine, which was developed by second-generation Turkish immigrants in Germany.

The total is set to reach 4.5 million in the coming weeks, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca told reporters in parliament on Tuesday.

Romania's COVID-19 daily case count rises by 5,808; tests performed in last 24 hours: over 41,000

As many as 5,808 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 in Romania were recorded in the last 24 hours following over 41,000 tests nationwide, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS), the official novel coronavirus communication task force, reported on Friday. These are cases of patients that have not previously tested positive.

Turkey plans to roll out local vaccine by end summer, says health minister

Turkey plans to roll out its domestically developed vaccine against COVID-19 by the end of this summer, the country's health minister has said.

There are 18 Turkish vaccine candidates on the World Health Organization (WHO) list, Fahrettin Koca added, addressing the organization's media briefing on April 1.
