Illegal treasure-hunter arrested in Crete
Authorities in the island of Crete have arrested a Spanish man for attempting to loot an archaeological site near the town of Hania.
A guard spotted the 44-year-old who was using a metal detector at the site of Falassarna, an ancient harbor town on the island's northwest coast, and alerted the police who arrested the suspect.

46 Foreigners Arrested in Crete Trying to Fly to Europe with Fake Passports
Hellenic Police (EL.AS) over the weekend arrested a total of 46 foreigners trying to fly to Europe from the Heraklion and Chania, Crete airports using fake passports, reported Greek Reporter.
The foreigners were between the ages of 17 and 51, coming from several different countries. They tried to use the forged documents in an effort to travel to various European destinations.

Couple on Crete drown trying to save their children
A man and a woman, both aged 35, died after trying to save two of their children in rough seas off Crete on Tuesday night. According to local reports, the couple had been camping with their four children at the beach in Geropotamo, Rethymno.

Rescue effort for two tourists continued after they found their way
Two French tourists who had alerted rescue services on Sunday that they were lost near a hiking trail linking Falasarna and Palaiohora on the island of Crete, eventually found their way out, without, however, notifying the relevant authorities until many hours later, when they arrived back at their hotel.
The pointless rescue operation lasted until the next morning.
