The U.N. General Assembly overwhelmingly passed a non-binding resolution Tuesday demanding a ceasefire in Gaza — taking the lead from the paralyzed Security Council, and piling pressure on Israel and Washington.

153 countries voted for the adoption of the resolution, 10 were against, and 23 UN members abstained.
Serbia is among the countries that supported the resolution, while Israel and the United States of America were against it.
Motion to declare Russia sponsor of terrorism voted down
The parliamentary Foreign Policy Committee has voted down a proposal tabled by the opposition Democrats (SDS) to pass a resolution whereby Slovenia would declare Russia a state sponsor of terrorism. A similar resolution was passed by the European Parliament in November.

He said that there were no consultations of all member states, and such an approach will only worsen the discord within the Council.
He estimated that such an approach would only deepen the rift between the member states, increase the contradictions between the parties and add fuel to the fire, RIA Novosti reports.

The UN has suspended Russia's participation in the Human Rights Council
The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution terminating Russia's participation in the Human Rights Council.
"The UN General Assembly has suspended Russia's participation in the UN Human Rights Council," the statement said.
93 delegations voted in favor of the resolution, 24 against and 58 abstentions.
Washington blocked the UN Security Council session
The session was supposed to be held on May 14
According to the Permanent Mission of China, which took over the presidency of the Security Council in May, the members of the UN Security Council could not reach a consensus on holding an open session on Friday.

Republicans seek US withdrawal from the UN
BELGRADE - Republican Mike Rogers presented a resolution in the House of Representatives seeking full US withdrawal from the UN, as well as moving the headquarters of the organization from New York.
Rogers and other republicans have several times pointed out that American taxpayers should not pay for an organization that does not promote the interests of the United States.
