The Government adopted a decision regarding the establishment of the Buzau bank of plant genetic resources for vegetable crops, floriculture, aromatic and medicinal plants, Government spokesman Nelu Barbu announced on Thursday.

Farmers in the Dobrich region harvest lavender of nearly twice as many areas as compared to last year's crop, according to the regional directorate of Agriculture. There is a trend of continuous increase of the massifs with the oilseed crop, which this summer reached 72 239 decares. A year ago there were 39 640 decares of lavender and only 6961 decares - in 2016

Statistical agency Eurostat said in a Halloween message on Monday that Bulgaria harvested over 132,000 tonnes of pumpkins and squash last year - the largest amount of any EU member state.

"Almost 12 thousand hectares are dedicated to this crop [in Bulgaria]," Eurostat said.
