İrem Günaydın's exhibition titled "Salad Cake" at Istanbul's The Pill Contemporary Art Gallery approaches the two main disciplines of art history, which are painting and sculpture, around a letter written by the artist. In the exhibition, painting and sculpture come close to each other in a two-and-a-half dimensional setup.

Turkey’s Milas olive oil gets geographical indication

The olive oil produced in Turkey's southwestern town of Milas has earned a geographical indication from the EU, the Turkish Directorate for EU Affairs said on Dec. 26. 

With this recognition that was applied for by Milas Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Milas Olive Oil will be protected in the EU against all kinds of abuse, imitation and association.

Famous Şanlıurfa cuisine seeks spot in UNESCO registration

Standing out with its rich culinary culture, the Turkish southeastern province of Şanlıurfa is planning to open a new gastronomy center to register its authentic tastes to UNESCO.

Zeynel Abidin Beyazgül, the mayor of the province, said their efforts continue to register Şanlıurfa's authentic tastes to UNESCO with 'the world's oldest cuisine' motto.

Coronavirus tops news searches on Google in Greece

Google's roundup of the year's most searched terms is out and unsurprisingly shows that the coronavirus was the top news topic of the last 12 months.

The findings are the result of Google's Year In Search, which also provides statistics on individual categories ranging from news and sporting events to recipes and dead celebrities.

Two-meter-long Ramadan pita sold by auction

A baker in the eastern province of Kars sold a 2.20-meter pita, with "Stay at Home Turkey" written on top of it using poppy and black seed prepared for the holy month of Ramadan.

Bakery owner Mustafa Kaya, who made the Ramadan pita with a dough weighing about 14 kilograms, said that he prepared such a thing in order to raise awareness to coronavirus measures.

Döner shops create monthly $630 million business volume

Some 30,000 shops sell around a total of 900,000 kilograms of traditional döner kebab each day across Turkey, making a great contribution to the local economy, according to the head of a trading group.

"Döner makers are also the main players in the local meat market as they create strong demand," Muhammet Nezif Emek, the head of Döner Shop Owners' Association, told Anadolu Agency.

Truffle hunting begins in Meteora in March

The annual truffle hunts in central Greece will kick off on March 1, when the truffle hunting season opens, the Natural History Museum of Meteora and the local Mushroom Museum who are organizing the event announced Wednesday.

The season begins in March and ends in October and each "hunt" lasts approximately three hours.
