Residents of Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, said they saw a mushroom-shaped cloud in the sky on Wednesday night that resembled the shape seen after a nuclear explosion.

Today will be sunny and hot. A weak southerly wind will blow, in the afternoon in Eastern Bulgaria - a moderate south-easterly wind. The maximum temperatures will be between 35°C and 40°C, in Sofia - around 35°C.

An orange code for high temperatures (up to 40 degrees) has been issued for today by the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology for 5 provinces - Blagoevgrad, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, St. Zagora and Haskovo.

A yellow and orange code for short-term and temporarily intense rainfall was issued for 15 provinces in Eastern and Central Bulgaria on Friday (July 7). Orange is the code for three provinces - Veliko Tarnovo, Targovishte, Shumen, and yellow for the rest. There are also conditions for hail. This is according to the forecast of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology.

Maximum temperatures will be between 29 and 34 degrees Celsius, in Sofia around 29°C. It will be mostly sunny. After noon, mainly over the mountainous regions, it will be cloudy, but only in isolated places it will rain and thunder. The wind will be oriented from the east-northeast, it will be weak.

A yellow code for significant rainfall with thunder and hail conditions has been announced for today in the areas of: Lovech, Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo, Targovishte and Razgrad. In some areas, rainfall amounts will reach 30-35 mm.

The minimum temperatures will be between 5°C and 10°C, in Sofia - about 6°C, and the maximum - between 20°C and 25°C, in Sofia - about 21°C, along the Black Sea - from 14°C to 16°C.

After a sunny Maundy Thursday, the weather will be unsettled with rain showers and thunderstorms at the end of Holy Week. At dawn on Friday, there will be high clouds in the western half of Bulgaria, while it will be sunny in the east.

Türkiye's most populous province Istanbul was hit by downpours caused by a weather phenomenon named "atmospheric instability," with around 65 lightnings flashing in a minute between late on July 10 and early July 11.

Rainfall and thunderstorms will occur today mainly in the eastern parts of the country. In some places the precipitation will be intense and significant in quantity, accompanied by a temporary increase in wind. There are conditions for hail.
