Online scams growing exponentially
Experts are sounding the alarm as online fraud in Greece quadrupled between 2018 and 2023. According to the Cybercrime Unit, 5,261 incidents were recorded last year, up from 1,093 in 2018. The recruitment of artificial intelligence is further worrying experts as now perpetrators can create more believable messages.

Man and two teens arrested over catfishing with 13-year-old bait
A 41-year-old man and two teenage boys aged 17 were arrested in the northern Athens suburb of Agia Paraskevi after getting into an altercation over sexually explicit content shared on a fake social media account purportedly belonging to a 13-year-old girl.

Man arrested for revenge porn
A 47-year-old man accused of so-called revenge porn has been arrested by police in Thessaloniki after he is alleged to have posted a large number of explicit photos of a 44-year-old woman on his social media profile.
The man, who was arrested in a hotel, told officers that he had consumed a quantity of pesticide, necessitating his hospitalization. He remains in hospital under guard.

Cybercrime exposure high, report shows
Greece is among the top 10 countries in the world that are most exposed to cybercrime, according to Proxyrack's new report.
The results of the report confirmed the low level of internet security investment in Greece, which has the eighth highest cyber exposure index at 0.4.
