Undisturbed tomb of ancient noblewoman found on Sikinos island

Archaeologists conducting restoration work at the Episkopi monument on the island of Sikinos, in the southern Cyclades, have found an undisturbed grave believed to contain the remains of an ancient noblewoman.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Culture, the grave contained rings, necklaces, bracelets and vases, along with a host of other items.

"Vanity - Jewelry Stories from the Cyclades" presents the story of jewelry-making in the Cyclades from the Neolithic period to the present through the prism of vanity and mankind's need for beautification and display. Some 230 archaeological discoveries from 19 Cycladic islands are exhibited beside the creations of 12 renowned Greek designers in a setting that resembles a jewelry box.

Third phase of project to connect islands to mainland power grid put to tender

The third phase of an ongoing project to connect the islands of the Cyclades by underwater cable to the mainland's power grid has been put to a tender, grid operator ADMIE said on Tuesday.

Firms have until August 23 to submit their proposals for the project, whose budget is set at 115 million euros.
