Proponents of the Annan Plan were using a very appealing slogan during the propaganda period for the April 24, 2004 referendum: "Yes be annem" (Say yes my mom). It was the slogan of strong support for the Annan Plan mixed with the matriarchal spirit of the Turkish Cypriot culture.

EU to be 'whole' when all of Cyprus in bloc, says Schulz
The European Union will not be whole until all of Cyprus, the Turkish and Greek administrations together, becomes a part of the bloc, said European Parliament President Martin Schulz during a visit to the Mediterranean island.

Individual rights or communal rights
A process of intentional deception is underway. Everyone is indeed pretty aware that there is no Cyprus deal in the pipeline as long as Greek Cypriots maintain their "all mine and only mine" obsession, but there is still talk about a resolution in March, April, May or at the latest by the end of the year.

Yet another glimmer of hope in Cyprus
Looking through the recent punditry on Cyprus, one inevitably feels a sense of déjà vu, as there appears to be nothing new regarding the age-old problem of the Eastern Mediterranean. So far, we have witnessed countless the best and the last hopes/chances before the inescapable train crash in the long, circuitous and problematic negotiation processes that predictably failed at the end.
