Greek PM rejects Turkish calls for two-state deal on Cyprus

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said Monday that the long-established federal formula is the only way forward in Cyprus reunification talks.

"Ending Turkish occupation and finding a viable solution are a fundamental Greek foreign policy priority," Mitsotakis said after a meeting with Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades in Nicosia.

Turkey and Turkish Cyprus will seek to coordinate their positions concerning the future steps to be taken for resolving the Cyprus problem before 5+1 format talks as Ankara urged the United Nations to stop relying on "a tested and exhausted process" that has failed to resolve the Cyprus dispute for "more than 50 years."

Turkish Cypriot president receives UN envoy to Cyprus

Ersin Tatar, president of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), received the U.N. envoy to the island on Jan. 11. 

After talks with Jane Hall Lute at the Presidential Palace in the capital Lefkoşa, Tatar expressed satisfaction with the meeting and looked to define any future negotiations over the divided island's future.
