British Prime Minister Theresa May has been urged by the Cypriot diaspora community to "call upon Turkey to remove its warships from Cyprus's EEZ [exclusive economic zone]."

Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot administration are not yet prepared to resume talks to reunite the ethnically-split island stalled months ago, Cyprus government spokesman Nicos Christodoulides has told state broadcaster RIK.

Conditions are not favorable for Greece and Cyprus to respond to the challenge of a Turkey that is increasingly unpredictable and showing an expansionist appetite.

French President Emanuel Macron has told his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan that he is worried about recent events off the coast of Cyprus, and called for "the need to respect Cyprus's sovereignty," a statement by his office said Monday.

"Turkey must think about what I have been saying for two years, that Greece is neither Syria nor Iraq," Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias said on Saturday, referring to recent tension emanating from Turkey.

Just a day after it said it won't allow Cyprus to conduct a "unilateral" gas search off the Eastern Mediterranean island's coast if Turkish Cypriots don't also reap the benefits, Ankara ratcheted up tensions with Nicosia Friday when its warships threatened to use force against a drillship contracted to Italian energy giant Eni as it tried, again, to reach an area in Cyprus's exclusive economic

There is no justification for excluding the will of Turkish Cypriot people in drilling activities around the island, said Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’ (TRNC) premier on Friday, rebuffing Greek Cyprus’ unilateral natural gas drilling efforts. 

European Parliament President Antonio Tajani said Friday that Turkey's actions within Cyprus's exclusive economic zone (EEZ) do not contribute to its European Union prospects.

Cyprus accused Turkey on Friday of threatening to use force against a drillship chartered by Italy's Eni, in a standoff over hydrocarbons rights in the eastern Mediterranean. 

Turkey won't allow Cyprus's government to carry out a "unilateral" gas search off the east Mediterranean island as long as breakaway Turkish Cypriots don't also reap the benefits, the Turkish energy minister said Thursday.
