Rival Cypriot leaders at a make-or-break summit in Switzerland this week will come under pressure to seal an elusive peace deal for their divided island or face the consequences.

"We are looking for a final settlement... We expect both parties to come with determination, will and leadership for a final settlement," a U.N. spokesperson told AFP.

A settlement on Cyprus requires the two peoples of Cyprus, as well as Greece and Turkey, to put aside emotional and unrealistic designs, abandon utopias, hallucinations, dreams and concentrate on a power-sharing scheme between the "two equal constituent people" of the island.

The Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras met with the Cyprus President Nikos Anastasiades in Brussels on Thursday.

They talked mainly about the draft document of Espen Barth Eide, UN Secretary General Special Adviser on Cyprus, and the coordination of Athens and Nicosia ahead of the Cyprus summit.

Ahead of the June 28 Cyprus conference in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, Greek-Cypriot negotiator Andreas Mavroyiannis Wednesday informed Cypriot political party leaders on the draft common document, regarding security and guarantees, he received earlier in the day from the UN secretary-general's special adviser on Cyprus, Espen Barth Eide.

The Turkish and Greek Cypriot leaders, Mustafa Akıncı and Nikos Anastasiades, will meet in Crans-Montana, Switzerland on June 28. The meeting comes after strong pressure from U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Gueterres to hold another conference in order to bring the two parties closer to a breakthrough with the participation of three guarantor countries: Turkey, Greece and the United Kingdom.

The United Nations special envoy Espen Barth Eide said Tuesday that success at the June 28 Cyprus Conference in Crans-Montana, Switzerland will hinge on a "strategic agreement" on the fundamental issues of security, guarantees, territorial adjustments, property and governance.

Any progress in Switzerland depends on Turkey’s will and now is the time for Turkey, said President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades. Speaking at a memorial service for the heroes of Spilion community on Sunday, the President said that the significance of the Switzerland talks do not alter key positions on the parameters for a just, viable and functional solution to the Cyprus problem.

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has stressed the importance of the guarantees system and emphasized that the Turkish side will not accept pre-conditions voiced by Greek Cyprus ahead of the crucial upcoming meeting in Crans-Montana in Switzerland on June 28.

The President of the Republic Nikos Anastasiades will be accompanied by the leaders of the parliamentary political parties in the UN-facilitated negotiations in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, Deputy Government Spokesman Victoras Papadopoulos has said.
