DECANI - On the third day of his trip to Kosovo-Metohija, Patriarch Porfirije of the Serbian Orthodox Church visited the Visoki Decani monastery and said peace was a spiritual category and that Kosovo was to be defended, above all, by doing good deeds.

Environment Minister Liburn Aliu said on Wednesday that the Kosovo authorities are "extremely concerned" about the inclusion of the Decani Monastery on the European cultural heritage organisation Europa Nostra's 'endangered sites' list.

This was announced on the Twitter account of this Serbian monastery.

"After deletion of the Visoki Deani Monastery name-tag on Google maps yesterday and the prompt intervention of our IT team, the name of the Monastery has reappeared on the map again. Let's hope that such incidents will not happen again", the monastery Visoki Decani said on Twitter.

The Peja/Pec Basic Prosecution charged two officials of the Kosovo water supply company Hidrodrini in Peja/Pec, related to water poisoning in Decan/Decani in July 2021.

Prosecutor Dorjan Juniku confirmed on Monday that they were charged with involvement in the poisoning of around 1,500 people in the Decan/Decani area.

The US, British, German, French and Italian embassies asked the Kosovo authorities on Tuesday to finally implement a six-year-old ruling granting parcels of land to the medieval Decani Monastery which had been claimed by two Kosovo companies.

They remain concerned that, despite constant calls from the international community and the judiciary, no legal registration of land has been carried out, in accordance with the decision of the Constitutional Court from 2016, it is stated in the joint statement of the Quint countries.

"A state of emergency has been declared on the entire territory of the municipality of Decan," said the text of an official decision made by the mayor of Decan/Decani, Bashkim Ramosaj, on Tuesday.

Ramosaj said he made the decision because more than 880 people are suspected to have fallen ill as a result of drinking contaminated water in the municipality over the past two days.

This problem is further intensified by the installation of new barricades that KFOR set up a few days ago near the monastery Visoki Decani, Gazeta Express writes.
Such an action provoked a reaction from the citizens of Decani, who said that "these barricades reflect insecurity, political pressure and obstacles to the development of normal life in this area."
