The real island of the “walking dead” (videos)

They say the dead live on in our hearts and minds – but in one Indonesian province, the deceased continue to walk the earth in a rather more literal, zombie-like fashion. In Torajana in South Sulawesi Indonesia, a tribe honors the deceased and shows its affection to the dead with a strange ancient custom. They dig them up, dress them in fancy new clothes and…take a stroll with them.

Public pays respects to late PM

Former conservative prime minister Constantine Mitsotakis laid in repose Wednesday for the public to pay its respects at the Athens Metropolitan Cathedral ahead of a funeral service at 3 p.m.

The mourners - among them the country's 76-year-old former king, Constantine - filed the the flag-draped coffin and expressed their condolences to the family.

'Cemetery of the nameless' established in Turkey's west for Syrians who died en route to Greece

A "cemetery of the nameless" has been established near the coast in the western Turkish province of İzmir for Syrians who died while trying to cross over to Greece. 

The newly founded Doğançay Cemetery hosts dozens of graves bearing numbers rather than names, with an imam praying for the unidentified bodies during their burial.

A video posted on the Facebook page of a user named Kostas Manoudiakis which shows the funeral procession of the Abbot of the Monastery Vontisiou in Crete has gone viral with over 55,000 views. The Cretans are renowned for their love of guns and weapons, which they often use on social occasions like weddings and funerals.

Hearse driver loses coffin

The coffin of a man in the region of Ilia in the Peloponnese was temporarily lost on Saturday after the driver of the hearse lost control of the vehicle on his way to the funeral while under the influence of alcohol.

The coffin, and the corpse contained within, apparently slid out of the car.

Search for Ben Needham leads to discovery of ancient graves, reports say

Police seeking a toddler missing for 25 years have uncovered several ancient graves during a dig in a field on the Greek island of Kos, where he was last seen, according to reports Thursday.

It is believed that the area may have been an old burial ground.

Police said that the search for Ben Needham will continue despite discovery of the graves which could be 1500 years old.
