Police arrest 17-year-old suspect over attack on Varoufakis
Police have arrested a 17-year-old suspect in connection with a violent assault on ex-finance minister Yanis Varoufakis in the central Athens neighborhood of Exarchia on Friday, state broadcaster ERT reported on Saturday.
Varoufakis blames ‘hired thugs’ for assault
Former finance minister Yanis Varoufakis has blamed "hired thugs" for the assault on him on in an Athens restaurant in which his nose was fractured.
"They were not anarchists, leftists, communists or members of any movement," Varoufakis said in a tweet.

Varoufakis attributes SYRIZA losses to 'inconsistencies of last 4 years'
Commenting on the losses suffered by leftist SYRIZA in Sunday's local and regional authority runoffs, former finance minister Yanis Varoufakis attributed it to "inconsistencies" in its stances.
"SYRIZA never had deep roots in local government. But it chiefly paid for the inconsistencies of the past four years," Varoufakis told Skai.
ND led by more than 18 points in expat vote
The difference in the European Parliament election results concerning Greeks living abroad between conservative New Democracy and ruling SYRIZA was 18.61 percentage points in the former's favor, a final count has shown - double the difference in the domestic vote.

Voters send clear message after ND win in EU elections
The comfortable lead (9.5 pct) secured by the Conservatives over ruling SYRIZA in the European Elections in Greece on Sunday pointed to a clear shift in the political direction selected by voters in the country.
The gap between ND and SYRIZA is the widest ever recorded between the first two contenders in the nine European Elections held in the country since 1981.
