Montenegro 2023: Deciding between the Past and the Future
On 19 March 2023, presidential election will be held in Montenegro for the eighth time since the introduction of the multi-party system in this country and for the fourth time since its independence was proclaimed in 2006. 542,154 voters will be eligible to give a vote. The president of Montenegro is elected in a single national-wide constituency based on the two-round system.

In their appeal to the Constitutional Court, the ruling majority of 41 MPs in the 81-seat parliament claimed that Djukanovic had violated the constitution.

An MP for the largest opposition party, the former ruling Democratic Party of Socialists, DPS, Milos Nikolic, accused the government of ruining the country's reputation.

Meanwhile, the other two blocs in government announced protests if a new government is formed with the opposition Democratic Party of Socialists, DPS.

At the protests, Bratic said that only the current government can sign a fundamental agreement with the Serbian Orthodox Church, and it couldn't be done either by minority parties or the opposition Social Democratic Party and Social Democrats.
