Passenger ship returns to port due to mechanical fault
The passenger ship "Blue Star Galaxy" returned to the port of Piraeus due to a mechanical fault on Thursday evening. The ship, with 506 passengers and 100 crew members on board, was towed back to Piraeus by two tugboats.
The "Galaxy" was scheduled to dock at Samos, Kos, and Rhodes, but it will be delayed until the fault has been repaired.
Security for UEFA Super Cup game discussed
After 16 years, Greece will host a major soccer event, the UEFA Super Cup game between current Champions League title holders Manchester City and Europa League winners Sevilla.
The game, to be played at the Karaiskakis Stadium in the Piraeus neighborhood of Neo Faliro on August 16, will attract upwards of 15,000 supporters of the two teams.

Family awarded 310,000 euro over Mati fire death
A family was awarded 310,000 euros in compensation on Thursday for the death of a woman during the Mati wildfire in 2018. This was the second ruling of a three-member Court of First Instance in Athens.
The woman died at sea, drowning while she was attempting to escape the lethal fires.

Scientists say 50 beaches are clean, 7 are not in southern Attica
Scientists from the Center for Ecological Research published on Thursday their annual evaluation of the beaches in the southern coast of Attica.
The microbial analyzes in seawater taken from 50 beaches from Piraeus port to Vouliagmeni showed that 43 are clean but seven are unsafe.
Fatal accident prompts strike at Perama Ship Repair Zone
Workers at the Perama Ship Repair Zone, situated northwest of the Piraeus port, have initiated a fresh 24-hour strike on Wednesday in response to a fatal accident that took place on Tuesday. As part of their protest, employees will gather outside the ISAP electric railway station in Piraeus at 10 a.m., while the Piraeus Labor Center has organized a rally at Korai Square in Piraeus at 7 p.m.
Increase in safety measures at shipyards agreed for summer
Ministry officials and representatives of shipyard workers have met and agreed on increased safety measures at shipyards during the summer, following a fatal accident on Monday.
A 47-year-old crane operator died and two others were injured in the accident, which took place during repair work on a ship.
