Poor countries call for debt revolution at UN summit

Torn down by growing debt and a barrage of crises, leaders of the world's poorest countries have stepped up calls for the rules governing handouts of billions of dollars to be rewritten.

Western nations gave out more than $185 billion in grants and cheap loans in 2021, according to the OECD. Official development assistance is one of the pillars of the international financial system.

Croatia NGOs Criticise Move to Allocate Funds for Persecuted Christians

Some NGOs have criticised an independent MP, supporting the ruling Croatian Democratic Union, HDZ, who has proposed an amendment to the 2021 budget, allocating 1.5 million kuna, or 200,000 euros, for "persecuted Christians and other people in need".

The budget is due to be voted on in parliament on Wednesday.

Bulgaria's government will grant Ukraine humanitarian aid of EUR 50 000.

The funding will be provided from the official development aid allocation under the central budget.

The aid aims to alleviate the difficult social and economic and humanitarian situation in the country

The funding will be provided via the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
