2024 will show the way we’re headed

The past year showed that the future of humanity is in the hands of the voters of democratic countries. This year will show which way we are headed. We know how autocratic regimes behave and what their aims are. The great challenges of our time demand virtues that only the voters of free nations can appreciate and choose.

Nostalgia for events unlived

As a millennial, I learned about the Athens Polytechnic Uprising in a rather quiet manner, through books and from two or three trusted people who were there. I read poems about it and listened to songs; I went to events that had an emotional impact.

Parliament adopts law for extending state of emergency powers for detention, dismissals

Regulations including the extension of some state of emergency measures were approved in the Turkish Parliament early on July 18.

An omnibus bill that included regulations on the economy was passed in the General Assembly of the parliament and became law.

No additional restrictions to be added under decision to extend state of alert

The National Emergency Management Committee (CNSU) proposes the extension of the alert state by 30 days from August 16, and a government decision in that respect will be submitted for approval to a government sitting, Head of the Emergency Management Department Raed Arafat said on Friday.
