Greek choreographer Papaioannou directs Pina Bausch's legendary dance group

"If I had said no to this offer, I would not have been able to tolerate myself in my death bed," choreographer Dimitris Papaioannou told journalists during a press conference at the Onassis Cultural Centre (OCC) shortly before the premiere of his new work "New Piece I - Since she."

In "New Piece 1: Since She," at the Onassis Cultural Center, acclaimed Greek choreographer Dimitris Papaioannou pays tribute to Pina Bausch nine years after her death, with a series of wonderful tableux vivants referencing landmark works by the German dance legend, accompanied by music by Verdi, Mahler, Wagner, Prokofiev and Tom Waits.

Involving 10 performers on stage, Dimitris Papaioannou's "The Great Tamer" takes shape around the notion that human life can be seen as a journey of discovery, in which we explore for hidden treasure, an inner excavation searching for meaning. The performance is conceived and directed by Papaioannou, who returns to the stage for the presentation of his latest work.
