Greece: The Fire in the Alexandroupolis is the Largest in the EU since statistics have been kept

A forest fire in Greece is the largest recorded in the European Union, said a spokesman for the European Commission, quoted by "Guardian" and "AFP".

Eleven aircraft and a helicopter from the EU fleet have been sent to help fight the fire north of the city of Alexandroupolis along with 407 firefighters, Balazs Ujvari said on Tuesday.

EU mobilization to tackle Greek fires totals over 350 firefighters, 12 aircraft from 7 countries

Over 350 firefighters, 50 vehicles, and 12 aircraft have been mobilized by the European Commission, "helping to battle the flames across Greece," European Commission spokesperson for Budget and Human Resources, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Balazs Ujvari said in a statement uploaded on social media on Monday.

Slovenia sending EUR 100,000 aid to Ukraine

Ljubljana – Slovenia will make a humanitarian contribution of EUR 100,000 to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in 2022 to help war-stricken Ukraine, the government decided on Saturday.

The ICRC’s work in Ukraine is focused on providing medical care, access to water and other basic services, the Slovenian Foreign Ministry announced.

Bulgaria Requests Oxygen Devices and Emergency Beds from the EU

Bulgaria activated the EU civil protection mechanism on Tuesday, European Commission spokesman Balazs Uyvari announced, BNR reports.

As a reason, our country has pointed to the sharp increase in cases of infection and death as a result of COVID-19.

Our authorities have requested oxygen devices, patient monitors, emergency beds and oxygen masks.

Slovenia sends firefighters to N Macedonia

Ljubljana – Slovenia has deployed a civil protection unit and 16 vehicles to North Macedonia to help fight wildfires there in response to the country’s asking for help through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.

According to a post on the government’s Twitter profile, Slovenia sent 46 members of civil protection specialising in fighting wildfires with 16 vehicles.

New humanitarian mission to support countries facing effects of COVID-19 pandemic

The Department for Emergency Situations, through the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, as the national authority for international assistance in civil protection, will provide on Friday a transport with 310,000 FFP 2 protective masks to the Republic of Serbia, in support of the authorities, to combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bulgaria’s Humanitarian Aid to Syria - BGN 97,792

Bulgaria will provide financial aid for dealing with the humanitarian crisis in Syria and the region in the amount of BGN 97,792, the government decided at today's meeting, said the government press office. The funds will be provided from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' budget for development and humanitarian aid.
