The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) announced on May 20 that the units established earlier in a bid to assist displaced earthquake victims returning to their hometowns for the May 14 ballot will continue to work for the second round as well.

The parliamentary report prepared on the devastating Feb. 6 earthquakes has revealed that the country "was not ready for a big tremor," urging the authorities to enact a roof law on disasters.

"Disasters experienced in the past have shown that our country was not ready for disaster and was also inadequate in the intervention and recovery stages," the parliamentary report stated.

In the aftermath of the deadly Feb. 6 quakes, the problem of shelters continues to persist, as the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) has announced that citizens or companies who are willing can donate containers to the quake zone, in a bid to provide adequate accommodation to quake survivors.

Turkish calligraphers have sold 71 works and collected some 2 million Turkish Liras (over $100,000) within the scope of an auction they organized for people affected by the Feb. 6 earthquakes, donating the proceeds to the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).

The auction, organized by Calligraphy Art Atelier, was broadcast live on social media.

Türkiye's Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) volunteers have drawn cartoon characters on the walls of a village school in the eastern province of Erzurum.

Some 15 AFAD volunteers have worked for community service since the earthquakes which occurred in Erzurum in June 2020 and in November 2021.

A moderate earthquake occurred off the coast of the Black Sea province of Zonguldak in Turkey's northwest on April 11. 

The magnitude of the earthquake was 4.4 according to the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).

The earthquake was felt in Zonguldak and nearby provinces, including İstanbul.

The Turkish Red Crescent and the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) have announced they are sending humanitarian aid and personnel to Ukraine.

Turkey has established a new residential region in Syria's northwestern province of Idlib to host all the Syrians displaced from their houses amid the civil war in the country that has been going on since 2011.

Turkish authorities have sent landing ships to the Black Sea province of Sinop's Türkeli port to provide aid for the people affected by the sudden floods that swept through several towns in the region last week.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.7 struck eastern Turkey on April 3.

The quake occurred in Van province at 8.44 a.m. local time (0544GMT), according to Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).

There were no immediate reports of casualties.
