It's not just Greece that's prone to summer fires, as weather and human factors lead to similar disasters in countries across Southern Europe every year.
However, if we want to reduce the risk of fires, measures must be enforced, while we also need the appropriate means and coordination to act fast when a fire starts so it's less likely homes and lives will be put in danger.

EU To Pay More to Countries Suffering from Natural Disasters
The EU budget will pay more money to countries which have suffered from natural disasters. The agreement was reached at the permanent representatives-level in Brussels.

Bulgaria Govt Endorses Spending of BGN 20.5 M for Disaster Management
Bulgaria's government on Wednesday approved additional spending of BGN 20.5 M (EUR 10.5 M) to back activities for dealing with natural disasters.
The funds will go toward repayment of costs of rescue operations in emergency and crisis situations prompted by landslides and floods.

Natural disasters have caused more than $7 trillion (6.2 trillion euros) in economic damage worldwide since 1900, with floods and storms accounting for nearly 60 percent of the total, researchers said April 18.

Floodwater reveals illegal dumping site in Black Sea town
Catastrophic rain that killed eight people in the Black Sea region of Artvin has revealed an illegal dumping site, as floodwater dragged piles of garbage towards the coast.
As garbage filled the coastal roads of Artvin, it came to light the Hopa and Arhavi municipalities had been illegally dumping waste on an area on the backside of a mountain's outskirts.
