Bulgarian mayor exorcises car accidents with sugar…
The mayor of a Bulgarian city dropped 50 kilos of sugar on the roads to “chase away bad luck”, after many fatal car accidents took place recently.
Four people, amongst which two children, were killed, and six more were injured in car accidents within the town of 25,000.
Traffic accidents down in March
Traffic accidents in the month of March decreased by 13.1 percent compared to the same period last year, according to data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), but the number of the people that died on the streets of the country rose by 18.8 percent.

Fighter jet… congests Autobahn
The Autobahn suffered some delays lately. Yet it wasn’t because of an accident or delays in traffic, but because of a… fighter jet.
According to reports, a Eurofighter Typhoon being transferred by truck between Berlin and Munich caused the whole traffic jam.

100 Bosnians Still Homeless One Year After Floods
A foreign diplomat who is familiar with the recovery effort told BIRN on condition of anonymity that at least 100 people who were displaced by massive floods and landslides in May last year are still living in public shelters.
Over 100 more are also dependent on non-residential help, the diplomat estimated.
"This does not, however, mean that this is the final number," he said.

Man dies at Acropolis metro station after jumping in front of train
A 35-year-old man died at Acropolis metro station on Friday after apparently jumping in front of a train heading in the direction of Anthoupoli.
Authorities said the train driver was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the unnamed man.
The fire service was called to recover his body.
Nine-Storey Block Collapses in SW China
An unknown number of residents have been trapped beneath the rubble of a residential building which unexpectedly collapsed in Southwestern China.
Firefighters and medical staff are working hard to find survivors after the incident which took place in the city of Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou Province, according to the South China Morning Post.

Fights and slaughter between immigrants on a half-sunk ship
Burma and Bangladeshi immigrants began fighting each other with machetes and iron rods on a boat sailing near Indonesia, which is also in danger of sinking. Survivors speak of 100 dead.
Shocking video of freak accident in China
Two people were killed and seven more were wounded when a huge wall collapsed, in China, on top of passers-by. One of the people buried under the rubble was killed instantly, while another died in the hospital a short while after. Seven wounded, including two children, are hospitalized and out of danger.

Four Die in Hostel Fire Near Tokyo
A fire at two adjacent hostels in Kawasaki, southwest of Tokyo, claimed the lives of at least four people on Sunday. Their identities were not immediately known.
Nineteen others were injured and sent to hospital. About 60 people are believed to have been staying at the two wooden hostels when the fire broke in one of them.
