European Parliament Milestone Vote for the Rights of Black People in Europe

Brussels, 26 March 2019 - Today the European Parliament adopted a Resolution on the fundamental rights of people of African descent in Europe. This is the first time that the European Parliament publicly recognises the specific racism and fundamental rights issues facing people of African descent in Europe.

 

Women’s Day marked with demo, work stoppage

International Women's Day was marked in central Athens on Friday with a rally at Klafthmonos Square.
The demo was joined by anti-racists, feminists, trade unions and women's groups who called for workers in the private and public sectors to stop work, not go shopping and abstain from family obligations for the whole day.

Homophobia probe launched into retirement home

Supreme Court prosecutor Xeni Dimitriou on Wednesday ordered an investigation into a report in Iefimerida according to which a retirement home in Kalavryta removed a resident because he was homosexual.

Dimitriou asked a local prosecutor to determine whether the management or staff at the institution should be charged under a law cracking down on discrimination.

PM Dancila presents priorities of Romania's EU Council Presidency to head of American Jewish Committee Harris

One of Romania's priorities during the presidency of the Council of the EU is to intensify European joint efforts to combat anti-Semitism, Prime Minister Viorica Dancila said on Thursday, during a meeting she had, in Brussels, with the Executive Director of the American Jewish Committee, David Harris, informs a press release issued by the Government.
