Turk trying to swim to Greece is rescued
A 42-year-old Turkish national trying to swim from the coast of Turkey to the Greek island of Symi has been rescued by Greece's coast guard.
The coast guard vessel, on a regular patrol, found the man, on Monday morning, calling for help. He was wearing a tube floating device.

Kastellorizo is a key point for Greece’s EEZ and continental shelf, Dendias says
Defense Minister Nikos Dendias visited the remote eastern island of Kastellorizo in the Dodecanese on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of the liberation of the island.
During his visit, Dendias emphasized the island's significant geopolitical importance and its crucial role in Greece's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and Continental Shelf.
Worker dies at PPC factory in Kos
A 63-year-old worker died Friday morning at a Public Power Corporation (PPC) factory on the island of Kos.
The man, employed by TERNA Energy Group, collapsed shortly after starting his shift.
Despite receiving immediate first aid, he was pronounced dead after being transferred to the hospital.

Rhodes: Serious problems caused by the heavy downpour due to bad weather Atena (video)
Severe problems were caused by the heavy downpour that hit Rhodes earlier Wednesday afternoon as part of the “Atena” storm. The heavy rainfall caused significant difficulties for traffic within the city.
Citizen group urges PM to halt Astypalaia mega-project
A citizen group on the Aegean island of Astypalaia has appealed to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to intervene and halt plans for a new village of tourist residences, which would be the size of the island's capital, Chora.
Five drownings in 24 hours
Five people have drowned while swimming in the last 24 hours, the coast guard has said.
On Thursday evening, a 75-year-old man was removed unconscious from the sea in Vrachati, Corinthia. He was transferred to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

DYPA: Over 40,000 people vacationed in August with social tourism vouchers
A total of 40,234 social tourism vouchers for 2024-2025 issued by the Public Employment Service (DYPA) were activated in tourist accommodations across the country in August, the second month of the program.
According to the announcement, vacations can be taken until June 30, 2025.
