The oldest archaeological evidence of domesticated dog bones comprises two significant discoveries: one in Germany, dating back 14,700 years, where a dog was buried alongside a couple; and another in Israel, dating back 12,000 years, where a woman was buried with a puppy nestled under her arm, only a few months old.

Dogs do understand us, says new study
Whether dogs truly understand the words we say, as opposed to things like tone and context clues, is a question that has long perplexed owners, and so far science hasn't been able to deliver clear answers.
But a new brain wave study published on March 22 in Current Biology suggests that hearing the names of their favorite toys actually activates dogs' memories of those objects.

Bobi, who was this year ordained the oldest dog in the world by Guinness World Records, has died at the ripe old age of 31, Portuguese media reported on Oct. 23.

Swiss diplomat reunited with her dog after 10 months
Swiss diplomat Martine Berset, who had to leave her dog at the clinic as it was still receiving treatment when her assignment in Ankara ended, has been reunited with her dog after 10 months of separation.
Starting her duty at the Swiss Embassy in the Turkish capital in 2019, Berset opened the doors of her houses to many cats and dogs on the streets.
Man in Thessaloniki arrested over dog abuse
An 87-year-old man was arrested and fined on Tuesday after he was caught on video abusing one of his dogs in the region of Loutron Langada in Thessaloniki.
He was arrested following a lawsuit filed by a representative of an animal rights group Syniparcho (Coexist) and is to appear before a prosecutor on Wednesday.

World’s oldest dog Bobi celebrates 31st birthday
The world's oldest dog recently celebrated his 31st birthday, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.
Bobi, a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, a breed of Portuguese dog, celebrated during a party on May 13 at his home in the rural Portuguese village of Conqueiros, where has lived his entire life.

Lawsuit filed against man caught abusing dog on video
A representative of a local animal charity filed a lawsuit against a Thessaloniki man caught on video abusing a dog. The lawsuit was filed at the Lagada police precinct.
The video, that was uploaded on social media, shows the man beating the dog with a stick.

Greece to allow pets into more than 120 archaeological sites
Pets will soon be allowed into more than 120 archaeological sites across Greece, the country's Culture Ministry announced on April 27, although not in the Acropolis or some of the other top tourist draws.
