European Council President Donald Tusk expressed his condolences to the people of Greece after wildfires claimed at least 80 lives.

"I'm very saddened by the tragic forest fires in Greece," Tusk said in a tweet posted on the account of the European Council.

"Europe will stand by our Greek friends in these difficult times. Help is on its way from several EU countries."

The European Parliament will meet in Strasbourg this week with Prime Minister Boyko Borisov's report on the work of the first Bulgarian presidency of the Council of the EU.

"With friends like that, who needs enemies."

That was how Donald Tusk, one of the European Union's top officials, took President Trump to task on Wednesday, offering the latest look at how the Continent's leaders are trying to come to terms with the United States' shifting policy on issues like the Iran nuclear deal.

The European Union has recalled its ambassador from Moscow after leaders on the continent threw their weight behind Theresa May's stance over the Salisbury attack. Several EU member states were poised to announce expulsions of diplomats, in a bid to dismantle Vladimir Putin's spy network.
