A total of six weak earthquakes were registered on the territory of Smolyan region on May 12 and 13. According to data from the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography (NIGGG) of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the strongest of these six earthquakes had a magnitude of 2.9 on the Richter scale and was recorded at 1.20am on May 13.

Landslides have buried several houses in the Dospat region. The floods caused huge material damage.

Eleven people in Smolyan were buried under landslides and persistent rainfall is complicating the situation in the city and thevicinity. As a result of the rainfall in the mountainous region, many landslides were triggered, retaining walls fell, there are villages and neighborhoods without available access to them.

Due to the complicated situation in Dospat, Sarnitsa and Sliven, it is necessary to prolong the emergency epidemic situation in the country. This was announced in Plovdiv by the Chief State Health Inspector Angel Kunchev, quoted by BNT.
