Melange of traditional and urban rhythms at Druga Godba
Druga Godba, a long-running festival of world music, will bring 20 performers from 18 countries to Ljubljana between 22 and 30 May. The line-up includes acts ranging from Portuguese fado to flamenco, jazz and new African electronica.
Classical music from Balkans in centre of Maribor Festival
Maribor – The Western Balkans will be in the centre of musical exploration at this year’s Maribor Festival. A “fireworks of rhythm and emotions”, tonight’s opening concert will see the artist-in-residence, North Macedonian pianist Simon Trpčeski, perform with the SNG Maribor Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Romanian conductor Gabriel Bebeselea.

This time the festival organiser, Zavod Druga Godba, has joined forces with three co-producers: Cankarjev Dom and Kino Šiška in Ljubljana and, for the first time in the festival's long history, Narodni Dom in Maribor. Six organisations from the partner cities of Birmingham, Dublin, Helsinki, Lodz, London and Lyon will also be taking part.

The decision to move the first festival evening to Piran came about among other things because of the support of the local community, Rok Košir, a member of the programme board, has told the press.
