On August 3, the Mountain Service conducted two rescue missions on Mt Durmitor, when they evacuated a family from Poland and two more persons.

After publishing an article on the less well-known national parks across Europe, The Guardian received hundreds of responds regarding some other worthwhile destinations.

As a result, the publication issued a reader's edition to the same list, this time featuring Bulgaria's very own Pirin.

Montenegro has launched a "Lynx Recovery Programme" in order to find out whether any remaining lynxes still live in remote corners of the country - and offer protection if they do.

Only about a hundred lynxes now survive in the wild in the whole of the Balkans, spread over Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro and Kosovo, and some experts fear the number may be as low as only 40.
