Dutch–Turkish diplomatic incident

U.S. embassy officials in Ankara visited the Turkish Foreign Ministry on Aug. 2 to brief them on the details of the sanctions declared on Turkey by the U.S. Treasury, diplomatic sources have told the Hürriyet Daily News. 

As the first Turkish reaction to the U.S. decision to sanction two Turkish ministers, Turkey-U.S. Business Council (TAİK) has announced that "there should be no sanctions between old friends" and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan "can solve this problem" with U.S. counterpart Donald Trump. 

Turkey and the Netherlands have agreed to normalize ties, Turkey's foreign ministry said on July 20. The decision was reached in a phone call between Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Çavuşoğlu and his Dutch counterpart Stef Blok, it said.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is awaiting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for a visit following Turkey's presidential and general elections on June 24, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu told reporters on May 29.

A German court on May 15 rejected Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's appeal to ban outright a satirical poem recited by a comedian on German television, which had soured already-strained ties between Berlin and Ankara.
