Pandemic – The coronavirus brought an increase in deaths in July

Coronavirus has brought heightened mortality to Greece, having led to 25% more deaths in the summer than in the period before the start of the pandemic. Cyprus is on the same path, with the excess mortality reaching 26%, when in the rest of Europe the corresponding percentage fell to 4.4% last July, according to Eurostat data.

Magnitude 4.4 earthquake strikes eastern Turkey

A magnitude 4.4 earthquake rocked eastern Turkey early on Aug. 12, according to the country's disaster agency.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said the quake struck Iğdır province at 02.29 a.m. local time (1129GMT).

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 6.47 kilometers (4 miles), said AFAD.

Prosecutor orders probe into flooding disaster
