Hurricane Irma is now so powerful it has been causing seismic activity as it passes over the Caribbean and is even registering on earthquake monitors. Hurricane Irma has become the most powerful ever recorded in the Atlantic as it barrels down on the British Virgin Islands.
Around 30,000 islanders, nearly all British citizens, are directly in the path of the monster storm.

Turkish professor, top exam body revisit row over 'manmade quakes' after North Korea H-Bomb test

A new front has been opened in a controversial debate between meteorology expert Professor Mikdat Kadıoğlu and the country's top exam body, the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), over the possibility of "manmade earthquakes" after North Korea's sixth and largest nuclear test, claimed to have detonated a "hydrogen bomb" on Sept. 3.

4.8 magnitude earthquake shakes Turkish resort Marmaris

A magnitude 4.8 earthquake jolted the Turkish resort town of Marmaris in the evening hours of Friday, according to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).

The quake struck at 19:48 p.m. (EET) and was quite deep, measuring at a depth of 61.98 km below the seabed, AFAD said.

The epicenter was 11 km south of Lárdos, Greece, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said.

Powerful Earthquake in Indonesia

A strong earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale was felt along the coast of the western parts of Indonesia, according to AFP, quoted by DARIK.

There is no information about a tsunami, or whether there are victims or damages.

The earthquake hit the Mentavas islands in West Sumatra province, about 75km from the capital of Padang.

Earthquake was Registered in Greece

An earthquake of magnitude 3.6 on the Richter scale was registered in Greece at 6.16 am on August 29, according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center website.

The epicenter of the earthquake was 45 km east of Thessaloniki and 23 km north of Poligiros, seven kilometers under the earth's crust.

There is no evidence of material damage.

3.2 earthquake hits Thessaloniki

A 3.2 magnitude earthquake was felt in the city of Thessaloniki in northern Greece the morning of Tuesday. The tremor occurred in the region of Nea Apolonia at approximately 6.16am and had a depth of 10km, according to the Geodynamic Institute of the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki. The earthquake was also felt in the area of Chalkidiki.

Earthquake in Iran

Ten people were injured in an earthquake of magnitude 4.9 in Iran, the Associated Press reported, referring to state television, DARIK informed.

The quake has occurred before sunrise about 600 kilometers north of Tehran. The injured people have only minor injuries. Damage to buildings has been caused.
