Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said on Dec. 6 that the U.S.’s plan to declare Jerusalem as Israel’s capital is “unlawful.”

Israeli officials on Dec. 5 blasted President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s remarks suggesting that Ankara would consider severing ties with the country if the U.S. decides to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

A possible decision by US President Donald Trump to recognize Jerusalem as an Israeli capital will result in the cessation of diplomatic relations between Israel and Turkey. This was stated by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, reports sega. 

He also warned his American counterpart that the status of Jerusalem was a "red line" for Muslims, which should not be intersected.

President Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday Turkey could go as far as breaking off diplomatic ties with Israel if the United States formally recognizes Jerusalem as the Israeli capital, a move he said would be a "red line" for Muslims, Reuters reported.

An expected move this week by United States President Donald Trump to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital would be a “disaster” for the region, Turkish government spokesperson Bekir Bozdağ said on Dec. 4.

Jordan has warned of "grave consequences" if U.S. President Donald Trump decides to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, state media said.

Foreign ministers of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) will convene in Istanbul on Aug. 1 to discuss ongoing tension in east Jerusalem after Israel attempted to restrict the use of the Harem al-Sherif for Muslims, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a written statement.
