A new survey conducted by the Institute for Public Policy in Moldova, IPP, shows that half of all Moldovan citizens would leave the country if they had the chance to do so, mostly due to poverty, corruption and lack of a perspective.

Moldovan President Igor Dodon has declared 2019 the "year of the Stephen the Great," recalling a famous ruler of Moldova in the 15th and 16th century - in what many see as a campaign to boost support for Moldovan independence and counter pro-Romanian forces ahead of next year's elections.

Almost 60pct of Romanians declare rather their agreement with Romania's union with the Republic of Moldova, while 27pct are opposed, according to an Avangarde survey released on Wednesday.
