ATHEX: Most stocks stage late comeback

The closing auctions determined the hue of the indexes at the Greek stock market on Thursday, securing some gains for the benchmark, blue chips and banks, while the mid-cap index closed without a change. There was notable growth in early trade, but those gains evaporated later on before the auctions pushed the majority of stocks back into positive territory.

Speaking at an event organized by the ruling Serbian Progressive Party in Belgrade on May 4, Serbian Finance Minister Sinisa Mali said that Serbian GDP grew last year by 4.3 per cent.

The minister said this "has put Serbia among the [top] 10 economies of Europe in terms of GDP growth, and means we no longer compete with countries in the region".

The benchmark of the Greek bourse ended Monday's session close to last Friday's eight-month high as traders' efforts to cash in recent gains met the resistance of certain blue chips that refused to yield ground. This resulted in a mixed picture on the board, with gainers outnumbering losers at the end of trade.

ATHEX: Fresh 8-month high for bourse benchmark

The Greek bourse continues to go from strength to strength, with its benchmark recording another eight-month high on Friday, boosted by the performance of bank stocks as well as the continued drop of the yield on Greek state bond ahead of a possible new issue. The Eurogroup decision mattered little for traders, as they had already factored it in earlier in the week.
