Turkey to import 400,000 tons of sugar

A presidential decree published in the Official Gazette has paved the way for the import of 400,000 tons of sugar at a time when sugar price in the domestic market is rising.

The decree stipulates that no customs duties will be levied on the 400,000 tons of sugar to be imported and that import licenses, which will be granted under the new decision, will be valid until Oct. 15, 2022.

Turkey's fishery production down in 2020

Fishery production in Turkey posted a 6.1% decline last year on an annual basis, the country's statistical authority said on June 4. 

The fishery production totaled 785,811 tons in 2020, according to TÜİK figures.

The total fishery production comprised 37.1% caught sea fish, 5% other sea products, 4.2% inland water products, and 53.6% aquaculture products, it noted.

Eurostat: 1 in 10 Employed Persons at Risk of Poverty in 2018

One in ten employed persons aged 18 years or over in the EU were found to be at risk of poverty in 2018. Over recent years, this share has risen from 8.6% in 2008 to 9.5% in 2018.

The in-work poverty risk in the EU differs slightly between women and men. In 2018, 9.9% of employed men were at risk of poverty compared to 9.1% of women.
