The Bulgarian Economy Growth Lags Behind most Countries in the Region

Bulgaria remains behind most of Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries on GDP growth at the end of last year. Eurostat data show that our country is behind Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia on this indicator and outpaces only the Czech Republic and Croatia in the last quarter of 2018 compared to the same period of the previous one.

Inflation in the EU Up to 1.5%, Unemployment Remains Stable at 7.8%

Inflation in the eurozone rose to 1.5% in February, down from 1.4% in January, while unemployment in the common currency remained stable at 7.8%, Eurostat said.

Temporary inflation is in line with analysts' expectations, but the figure for unemployment is better than the consensus forecast of 7.9%.

Romania and Bulgaria have Lowest Prices for Consumer Goods and Services in EU

Bulgaria and Romania had the lowest prices for consumer goods and services in the European Union in 2017.

The prices were 52% below the EU average in Romania and 56% lower than the EU average in Bulgaria. However, the prices of goods and services in Romania increased compared to 2000, when they stood at only 35% of the EU average, Eurostat data shows.

Euro Zone GDP Increases, Unemployment Drops

GDP has marked growth in both the Euro zone and the EU as a whole. But inflation has registered a dramatic increase. The economy of the Euro zone continues to grow, albeit more slowly than before, showed Eurostat data.

According to Eurostat, the volume of GDP of the 19 member-states of the currency union grew by 1.7% in 2016, compared to 2% in 2015.

Greek current account gap shrinks in February, income account helps

Greece's current account deficit shrank in February from the same month a year earlier, helped by an improvement in the income account and a smaller trade deficit, the Bank of Greece said on Wednesday.

"The current account deficit dropped by 650 million euros year-on-year in February," the central bank said.
