Balkan Muslims Find Second Pandemic Ramadan a Challenge
Mass prayers, iftar dinners - breaking the daily fast - and family and neighbourhood gatherings are essential parts of Ramadan, besides other events such as concerts, fairs and conferences.
Finally, in Eid al-Fitr, known also in the Balkans as Ramazan Bajram, believers come together to celebrate the end of the holy month.
Miners have Ramadan’s first ‘sahur’ 250 meters underground
The holy fasting month of Ramadan has begun with Muslims from all over the world observing the fast under the shadow of the pandemic.
Turkish miners in the Black Sea province of Zonguldak have also marked the start of Ramadan by having a "sahur," a pre-dawn meal before starting the fast, 250 meters below ground.
Ramadan begins under virus measures
The holy month of Ramadan in Turkey has begun under stricter measures designed to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
The country last year also took similar measures in the face of the outbreak.

Muslims’ Holy Month of Ramadan Starts Tonight

Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims. This year, Ramadan will begin in the evening of Monday, April 12, and ends in the evening of Wednesday, May 12.

Deaths in road accidents decline in 2019
Nearly 5,500 people were killed and more than 280,000 others were injured in road accidents in Turkey in 2019, down from some 6,700 deaths in the previous year, the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜİK) has reported.
Over the past 10 years, the highest casualties in traffic accidents were recorded in 2015 with 7,500 deaths.

Inter-city travel restrictions may be lifted early June
Inter-city travel restrictions introduced in early April as part of wide-ranging measures to arrest the spread of the coronavirus may be abolished next month, Hürriyet daily has reported.
Nearly 48,000 people violate curfew rules
The Turkish public largely complied with the four-day lockdown taken across the country, but some 48,000 people violated the curfews rules, the Interior Ministry has said.
The country imposed the nationwide curfew during Eid al-Fitr on May 23 to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Erdoğan voices support for Palestine in Eid message to US Muslims
Turkey's president on May 24 reiterated his country's support for Palestine as the Muslim world celebrates Eid al-Fitr, the holiday marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
"We will not allow the Palestinian lands to be offered to anyone else," President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said in a video message on Twitter addressed to U.S. Muslims.
Erdoğan exchanges Eid wishes with counterparts
Turkey's president on May 24 exchanged greetings with his counterparts from Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Iran, Oman and Turkmenistan for Eid al-Fitr, the Muslim holiday following the holy month of Ramadan.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke on the phone with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev, said Turkey's Communications Directorate.
