Turkish tourism players, exporters split over public holiday for Eid al-Adha

Turkish tourism representatives and exporters are at odds over whether a public holiday for the upcoming Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) should be extended or not.

Local hoteliers are pushing for an extension to the public holiday for Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) to 10 days to help Turkey's struggling tourism sector. 

Aug. 31, a Thursday, will be the eve of Eid al-Adha, which will continue for the next four days. Turkey also marks the public holiday of Victory Day on Aug. 30.

Crowds flock to Istanbul beaches during Eid al-Fitr holiday

People who stayed in Istanbul during the Eid al-Fitr holiday flocked to nearby beaches to take advantage of the hot weather. 

There are around 85 spots in and around Istanbul that are suitable for swimming, all of which were popular among residents who stayed home for the holiday rather than driving to the country's Aegean and Mediterranean coasts.

59 killed, 330 injured in traffic accidents across Turkey since start of Eid al-Fitr

Some 59 people have been killed and 330 have been injured in a total of 78 traffic accidents across Turkey since June 24, the start of the Eid al-Fitr holiday, Doğan News Agency has reported.

Traffic was snarled as people took to the roads to visit their relatives in provinces across the country during the Eid al-Fitr holiday after Ramadan. 

Iranians flock to Turkey's Van for shopping, nightlife

Iranians celebrating the Nevruz holiday, which started mid-March and will last until the beginning of April, have flocked to the eastern province of Van for its nightlife and shopping. 

There are no available rooms left in the province and several hotels have turned their meeting halls into rooms to be able to meet the demand of Iranian tourists. 

Muslims to get prayer spaces in Athens for Eid al-Adha

The Education and Religious Affairs Ministry has announced that the capital's Peace and Friendship Stadium (SEF) in Neo Faliro and the Olympic Stadium (OAKA) in Maroussi will be made available for Muslims wishing to celebrate Eid al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, next week.

Groups wishing to use the facilities should forward applications in writing to the board of SEF or OAKA.
