Restaurants offering free food to the needy for 70 years in Turkey's east

Restaurants in the Karakoçan district of the eastern province of Elazığ have been offering free food to those in need for the past 70 years as part of a practice adopted years ago. 

Restaurant owners in Karakoçan adopted the decision to implement the "Table for the Impoverished" 70 years ago and have been serving free food to those in need at tables reserved for them ever since. 

Chief physician of university hospital in Turkey's Elazığ killed in armed attack

A chief physician of the Fırat University Hospital in the eastern province of Elazığ was killed in an armed attack on May 24, Doğan News Agency has reported.

Professor Muhammed Said Berilgen was assaulted by the owner of a medical firm, identified as Sercan Gök, while he was in his office at 11.45 p.m.

A chief physician of the Fırat University Hospital in the eastern province of Elazığ was wounded in an armed attack on May 24, Doğan News Agency has reported.

Centuries-old inscription unearthed in church in Turkey's Elazığ

Excavation works being conducted on the Kızıl Church, also known as the Virgin Mary Church, have unearthed a 165-year-old inscription. 

According to information released by Elazığ Municipality, continuing surveying and resto-ration project works on the 19th-century Kızıl Church have unearthed an Armenian inscrip-tion dating back to 1851 that measures 80 by 53 centimeters.
