President and Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will reveal a comprehensive manifestation about his party's objectives in the coming period including a road map for 2023, the year Turkey will celebrate its centennial and hold parliamentary and presidential elections.

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu on March 6 criticized an investigation opened against the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) by the Supreme Court of Appeals Prosecutor's office.

Turkey's new constitution will be encompassing and liberal, the nation's president vowed on March 4. 

"We will achieve for Turkey an encompassing, explicit, democratic, and liberal constitution that will guide its march into the coming century,"

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told an extended provincial heads meeting of his ruling Justice and Development AKP via video link.

A majority of the Turkish population believes that Turkey needs a new constitution, but it must be written within a suitable political climate, the head of the main opposition party has said, in reaction to the government's calls for the political parties to join their efforts to renew the charter.

Turkey's health minister on Feb. 26 announced the cities in Turkey where over the last week the number of COVID-19 cases rose or fell the most. 

On Twitter, Fahrettin Koca said the cities where the number of cases fell the most per 100,000 people are Bayburt (northeastern Turkey), Erzincan (eastern), Trabzon and Karabük (Black Sea region), and Hatay (southern).

As the government continues its harsh crackdown, the threat of a legal shutdown hangs over the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party, HDP - although what that would achieve is disputed.

A drafted amendment on the Election Law and Law on the Political Parties by the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) is suggesting reducing the current 10 percent national election threshold to 7 percent, while increasing the number of constituencies across Turkey.

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has met a delegation of the opposition Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) led by co-chair Mithat Sancar to discuss a wide range of issues regarding Turkey, including the opposition's efforts to shift back to the parliamentary system.

Following the announcement of a possible new constitution, Turkey's president welcomed on Feb. 3 everyone who wish to contribute to drafting of the new constitution.

"Such a comprehensive work will become meaningful with the involvement of all groups in the country," Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told his ruling AKP's provincial congresses via video link from the party's headquarters.
