Staple food prices rise 7 percent in August, says UN's FAO
Staple food prices rose 7 percent in August in comparison to the previous year on the back of a rise in commodities other than grains, the United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said Sept. 8.
Staple food prices rose in August even as grain prices fell, and the outlook for global cereal production improved, the FAO said in a statement.

The position has been stated in 10 letters of notification to the the European Commission to ensure that no GM products would be grown in Bulgaria, the ministry said in a statement.

Less corn and soy, wheat crop as expected
Serbian Minister of Trade Rasim Ljajic stated on Friday that this year's corn and soy crop "will be lower than expected."
However, Tanjug quoted him as adding that "there is no reason for panic, because some corn will be left for export as well.2

Wheat yield "above multi-year average"
Director of the Commodity Exchange in Novi Sad Zarko Galetin said on Thursday that wheat yield this season "would be good."
According to Tanjug, Galetin estimated the figure at "perhaps even higher than 4.5 tons per hectare."

Ground apples?

NOVI SAD - The grains and oilseeds markets are stable thanks to favorable level of stocks of these basic agricultural products, so their prices are expected to be relatively stable this year, said Zarko Galetin, director of the Novi Sad Commodity Exchange.

BELGRADE - The sowing of wheat in Serbia was carried out on an area of between 500,000 and 550,000 hectares and at the level of the last year's average, Tanjug was told by Nenad Budimovic, secretary of the Agriculture Committee of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.
