EU Council: The European Union Must Use Nuclear Power to Ensure its Energy Independence
The EU must use nuclear energy to ensure its energy independence, only alternative sources will not be enough. This was announced on Tuesday in Luxembourg by the Slovenian Minister of Infrastructure Ernej Vartovec, who is chairing an extraordinary meeting of the EU Council at the level of energy ministers, convened to discuss the energy crisis, TASS reports.
Pyatt reiterates US support for EastMed project
US Ambassador to Athens Geoffrey Pyatt has reiterated Washington's support for the deepening cooperation between Greece, Cyprus and Israel in the energy sector.
In early January, the three countries signed a deal to build a 1,900 km (1,180 mile) subsea pipeline to carry natural gas from the eastern Mediterranean's rapidly developing gas fields to Europe.

A close look at energy policies
Unfortunately, the most recent figures I could find on the International Energy Agency (IEA) website belong to 2008 and according to them, Turkey in that year consumed energy that corresponds to a total of 99 million tons of oil.
