NICOSIA ? Cyprus signed an energy deal with Egypt on Monday that could see the island supplying its Mediterranean neighbor with gas.
Cyprus is keen to exploit the Aphrodite field off its southeastern coast but the reserves proven so far are not considered sufficient to make it viable for the island to develop onshore export infrastructure of its own.

French energy company Total is likely to abandon a search for oil and gas off Cyprus after failing to find tangible evidence of reserves, dealing a blow to the island's hopes of a natural resource bonanza after a painful bailout in 2013.
Total to pull out of Cyprus hydrocarbon search
French energy giant Total is expected to abandon its search for oil and gas off Cyprus, the island?s Energy Minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis said on Wednesday.
He said the government had been informed last September that Total has failed to locate any targets to test drill in the blocks it is licensed to exploit.

Egypt in talks to import natural gas from Cyprus
NICOSIA Egypt is speeding up talks with neighboring Cyprus to import natural gas for its domestic use and for possible re-export to other countries, the Egyptian petroleum minister said on Tuesday.
Sherif Ismail said gas can be piped directly to Egypt from the field off Cypruss southern coast that is estimated to hold 3.6 trillion to 6 trillion cubic feet of the fossil fuel.
