Natural gas supply testing from Iran to Turkey has started in limited quantities, which will alleviate natural gas cuts to the country's industrial sector from Jan. 31, Turkey's national pipeline operator Botaş has said.

Gazprom has initiated natural gas supplies to Hungary and Croatia over the new route using the TurkStream gas pipeline, the Russian gas holding said on Friday.

Natural gas flow through both offshore lines of the TurkStream pipeline will be temporarily halted from 22 June until 29 June 2021, for annual maintenance and routine diagnostics, the project company, TurkStream, announced on June 16.

The works will be carried out by South Stream Transport B.V., the operator of the offshore pipeline system.

A consortium of Italy's Eni and Russia's Novatek plans on March 25 to start exploratory oil and gas drilling offshore from Montenegro under a concession contract signed in 2016.

The US State Department expressed its strong opposition to the Turkish-Russian TurkStream gas pipeline saying that together with the Nord Stream 2 they undermine the European energy security and serve only the Russian interests.

Over 5.8 billion cubic meters (bcm) of Russian gas transferred to Europe from Turkey via TurkStream natural gas pipeline in 2020, according to industry sources on Jan. 3.

The TurkStream pipeline opened by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Jan. 8.

Russian energy giant Gazprom and its Turkish partners are currently in talks on how the TurkStream pipeline can be used for deliveries to the European markets, said Elena Burmistrova, the chief executive of the Russian holding's export arm Gazprom Export.

Bulgaria says it aims to build on time its stretch of a pipeline that will bring Russian gas to Europe, despite unforeseen delays due to the COVID pandemic.
