Women in Turkey are becoming increasingly active in business, but they still need some encouragement to make the final step to become entrepreneurs, says the head of Garanti Bank’s SME Banking Marketing Department

In its first meeting on Monday, the new Government Council for Employment approved a series of targeted actions intended to support the unemployed and strengthen entrepreneurship, with an aim of creating 770,000 jobs by 2020.

Fewer enterprises shut down in the first half of 2014 compared with the same period in the previous two years, but there was also a drop in the number of new businesses, according to data from the General Commercial Register (GEMI).
