Women of Epirus: The Unsung Heroes of the Greek-Italian War (PHOTOS)

Most Greeks know about the golden pages of heroism written by the Greek soldiers in the mountains of Northern Epirus when Greece was called to ward off the Italian attack in 1940.

Many, however, ignore the contribution of Greek women; their voluntary and spontaneous offerings and self-sacrifices, remain a largely unknown side of the war.

It has local interest too. The very first case it shows is that of Northern Epirus, the Southern part of Albania, refering apparently to the “Protocol of Corfu” signed in 1914, which provided a status of autonomy to the indigenous Greek minority.

Severe weather phenomena in the upcoming hours!

During the morning hours of Saturday October 7th a severe deterioration of the weather is expected from the northwest.

The phenomena will include:

1. Strong rainfall and storms and in some areas even hail.

The areas effected will be central and eastern Macedonia, Thrace, the islands at the north and east Aegean and possibly the Dodecanese.

The “National Association of Northern Epirus 1914” participated for the third consecutive year at the Annual Conference of the Office of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) held in Warsaw.

Weather to worsen, EMY forecasts in emergency bulletin

The Greek Meteorological Services (EMY) has issued a weather bulletin forecasting a sudden turn of conditions with topical storms and heavy rains hitting western Greece Monday. The phenomena are expected to start midday and last till Monday night. The areas expected to bear the brunt of the weather phenomena are the Ionian islands, Epirus, western mainland Greece and central Macedonia.
